Now, it’s not as if I am surprised. When this film was announced, I was worried. Because at the helm was the massively over-hyped Zack Snyder, who has screwed up the most epic Comics ever written. He has made a disastrous ‘Watch Men’, the atrocious ‘Sucker Punch’ and ofcourse, the somniferous ‘Man of Steel’. And with this movie he has just taken the boredom to the next level. But I don’t blame him entirely. He is not responsible for sucking out all the joy out the 2 most amazing super-heroes ever. The responsibility lies with Christopher Nolan!
Yes, you read that right. Nolan has brought the boredom to DC. Now, don’t get me wrong. The 3 Batman Films made by Nolan were amazing in all aspects of film making. But they lacked the dark humour of Batman. He wasn’t the world’s greatest detective there, he was just like any other hero with gizmos. Bringing Superheroes to the realm of reality just killed the fun. Nolan’s Batman was just plain boring.
But DC Raked in the moolah and hence, Man of Steel was born. No, this was not the regular happy go lucky, optimistic, friendly Superman. This Superman was a burdened soul. The whole movie was shot in slow motion just to build up to the 45 minute WAY OVER THE TOP fight sequence in the climax. But DC raked in the moolah again. So what did DC do? Gave Zack the contract to do more and hence was born the Yawn of Justice!
The whole movie is a collection of slow motion shots taken and randomly put together to make a monstrosity greater than Doomsday! And then there is some really turdy acting. While Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck are given exactly one expression to do in the entire film ( i.e. Make the Constipated face), Jesse Eisenberg is terribly miscast as Lex Luthor as he hams up the entire performance with more expressions than are required in 20 movies. It doesn’t help that the film has a continually over-bearing sense of doom throughout, which makes it dull and hopeless. By the end of it, you just want the 2 super-heroes to fight and get it over with. Though you really don’t understand why the 2 super-heroes are so stupid! Their motivations to fight are useless and Superman is reduced to Super-oaf – all brawn no brains, which really makes me mad.
Forget Dawn of Justice, this is the ultimate injustice that could have ever been done to the most epic fight in the history of Superheroes. And not just that, it puts a big question mark on the Justice League. Yes, Wonder Woman is the best thing about this movie, but the way the super-humans have been introduced is really bogus. I just hope DC recovers from this and writes a really fun Super-hero movie with loads of gags, some character and enigmatic heroes. Maybe a dash of Marvel will help them. Please, just please get out of the perpetual gloom!
