'7 Khoon Maaf' is in a league of its own. It's dark, it's classy, it's crazy and it's truly international. Vishal Bharadwaj shows why he is one of most amazing film makers in the country. To make a film like this is not easy. To convince a production house to pay money for insanity is not easy. And what's more, it is devoid of any cliches Indian films suffer from.
So then we have this beautiful, crazy lady Priyanka Chopra, who is truly unfortunate when it comes to husbands. She falls in love easily, marries men, finds some problem in them, kills them, promises to never marry again, finds another guy, marries again and so on and so forth. Is she unfortunate or is she demented? Does she find some vague, depraved pleasure in killing husbands? Clearly, she is not an angel herself. She is proud of her beauty and is proud of it's effect on men.
Many films have come in the last year which I have enjoyed, but none has tried to awaken the film maker in me. Vishal's "7 Khoon Maaf" really instigated that part of me. It challenged me, inspired me. The film is clinical in execution. Brilliant screenplay and excellent characterizations. I love madness and Bharadwaj flaunts insanity with complete ease. He is the master and not a 'wanna be'. He is in charge of every scene and though Priyanka is the lead character, the film belongs to the director.
The background score is mesmerizing and well, I am love with "Daaarrrrrrrling".Vivaan Shah looks promising. The acting by everyone is apt. It's over the top in the right places. Check out Priyanka and her mental clan of 3 servants go about their business. There is some kind of crude satisfaction in the depravity! You could also check out the french film "Delicattesen"if you like this film :)
The movie started with a Brain being blown away and blood being splattered on the wall and ended with my mind being blown away! Do watch it; it's' to kill for! And yeah, while you are at it, try to figure out the 7th Murder :)
Rating : 7 (for each murder) + 1 (for pure insanity) = 8 / 10
