Now, bear in mind that I went to the theater to watch this film after a month of nothing! So I was really excited. But after about half an hour, I started shifting. Why? Because it all seemed too boring. Ben Kingsley a.k.a. the Mandarin ominously showed up in Terrorist styled videos and weird self-regenerating humans started taking down things too easily. Infact they took down Tony Stark's house too easily too. And all the while, I kept thinking, where the hell is S.H.I.E.L.D, where the hell are the Avengers? A vacation in Australia? Why come on! now Iron Man has to fight his own battles? Not that he likes it any other way.
Moving on, the 3-D was excellent and the visual effects spectacular. A few of the action sequences were cool too. But if I compare it to the Avengers... well, didnt have that much fun? After all, how long can you be engaged by smart ass one liners? Even when the love of his life is seemingly dead, Tony Stark makes snide jokes. The biggest problem I had was that it had too many KUCH BHI moments (Sample - even when he has no money and has to borrow a plastic watch from a kid, he somehow acquires an extravagant car!) and the finale was just about decent. Though it was grandiose, it lacked edge of the seat excitement. Actually, you know what - the love angle just about spoiled it.
Also it kinda uses Mandarin's name and gives us a half baked mad scientist. Mandarin lacks menace, because whenever things get serious, Stark gets cocky! Mandarin captures POTS and injects her with some deadly stuff. But Stark is able to FIX HER in a sentence, while botanists of the highest caliber fail! It all seems too convenient.
Well, should you watch it? Ofcourse you should! It's paisa vasool entertainment, but the plot is a bit weak and lacks dramatic punch. It is overly dependent on Robert Downey's spectacular performance. Claps for him, but this is not Iron Clad stuff.
