Do Dooni Chaar, is the story of a lower middle class family with its usual Money issues. Rishi Kapoor is the hard working and honest mathematics teacher who barely manages to pay for his families expenses. His kids are frustrated with the lifestyle and want more. Social pressures compound the problems and Rishi decides to buy a car. He tries all means possible to buy this car, from asking for a loan to buying cartons of soap to try and win a lucky car as prize. But his desperation forces him to take a step which he has stayed away from, all his life.
Casting wise, this film is perfect. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh are the lovable couple they have always been and you simply love their chemistry. His kids, Archit Krishna as Deepu and Aditi Vasudev as Payal are awesome. Aditi brings out the angst of a teenager wanting more in life beautifully, while Archit plays the school going bad boy to perfection. Also, Akhilendra Mishra as the neighbor is thoroughly competent.
Though the music by the Meet Bros is not something to talk about, but it does have a delightful Background score, that keeps the mood light all the way. Also Writer/Director Habib Faisal, has done a more than decent job at writing some charming scenes and keeping you interested throughout. The characterization is excellent and the screenplay is engaging.
The Director is successful in capturing the life of a Middle Class family struggling to meet terms, capturing the social tensions and the problems that an honest teacher faces in society. Yes, Habib does go a little over the top during the climax to drive in his point, but that is excusable. This movie is one of those small budget films that make you smile and gives you a good time. Even though Do Dooni Chaar is all about Adding up and Algebra, it’s the Chemistry between the main characters that helps it sail through. I know I am a bit late, but the movie is still in some theaters. So do try to watch it, else definitely catch it on TV.
