I watched it on a weekday at 10 pm and well, there were about 10 of us in the theater ( in total). It very much felt like a private screening. In hindsight, it is good. Atleast if I would have dozed off, nobody would have slapped me for disturbing them! Anyways, I didnt sleep and that is rather unfortunate!
Now, the movie is based in Punjab and Anurag has spent close to 25 paise making this film! The actors are dirt cheap + Kunal (just dirt) and the locations etc are too. But I guess Anurag did a good job promoting the film, because it had a lot of good word of mouth.
The story is about a guy who ran away from his hometown to go to UK. The guy gets into trouble, needs money and hence comes back to his hometown to make some money by hook or by crook. He is behind the secret recipe of Chicken Khurana which his grandfather used to make. Unfortunately grandpa passes away and he is left to find the "world famous in Punjab" recipe!
The film has a nice premise, some good characters and yet it fails to keep you glued to your seat for 2 hours. This is mainly because the plot line is as thin as Chidambaram's hair. The film (especially in the 2nd half) spends so much time on Luv Shuv and the secret recipe of Chicken Khurana that it keeps going in circles and you feel frustrated after a while.
The songs are decent and the camerawork is too. Kunal Kapoor stinks, but the other ensemble cast do a good job. Huma Qureshi keeps up the good work ( from GOW1 & 2), Rahul Bagga as Kunal's bro does a very good job but Rajesh Sharma as Titu Mama just steals the show with his comedic timing and dialogue delivery. The film is enjoyable, whenever he is on screen.
Sameer Sharma does a decent job as a director in his first film, but the story is too thin and boring for a good film. If you would like to see some typical Punjabi nuances like FARTING, EATING, DANCING etc, do watch the film. Otherwise, wait for it to be telecasted on TV because frankly it is a little difficult to digest and hence leaves you farting and sleepy.
Rating: 4/10 (A point subtracted for using CHICKEN in the name and making a mess of it!)
