There is a distinct pleasure in watching something that you know is going to be bad. For me and my friends, its Diwali... We load up on food and drinks and hoot the hell out of our systems. Joker was one such opportunity. I regret not having watched it in a theater with my gang.
Joker surprised me. Really. I thought it would be bad. But it wasnt just bad.... Read on and I might just be able to come up with a word that describes the feeling. I dont have it right now...
Last month Farah starred in the mind numbingly amateurish "Shirin Farhad". She didn't act in the film, the film acted around her !!! You watch the film and you'll know exactly how much talent she has ('read' - ZILCH) And then Shirish came out with his Joker.
It's like the family is out to terrorise India. It also seems like Shirish is not happy just being slapped by SRK!!! Frankly, if you see the film, you might not be able to stop yourself if you met Shirish somewhere.
So what is it about? Well, Akshay Kumar works for NASA ( Nefariously Asinine Scientists discussing Aliens) and is building a machine to contact aliens, when he is called back to his psycho village on the pretext that his father is ill. Sonakshi decides to tag along, coz' she has nothing else to do. Literally, she has no character. She is practically a nothing. She just exists to stand by the side of Akshay. In the entire film. True story!
So they go to their village, aptly named Paglapur, which has no existence in India's map (Thank God!!). Its a village full of retards. And it wouldn't be wrong to assume that Kunder found inspiration from his own home! Ok. So Akshay comes back and realizes that his village needs him. He then sets off on a mission to get his village back on the map. He concocts a story about aliens landing in this village and overnight it becomes famous.
Now, alien is the key to this film. Because logical reasoning, character & scene development, story writing, all seem alien to Kunder.
The poor village doesn't have electricity, but Akshay Kumar's laptop seems to be running on Oxygen. Keeps going on and on. Not only that, he is able to get mobile connectivity, online connectivity, Satellite connectivity, the works, when even the POSTAL service isn't functioning in this village. Well, he works with NASA ( Numbskull Actor who Signed this Atrocity) after all!
The music is 3rd rate, the comedy is forced, the characters are undeveloped. Asrani is a caricature of himself and Shreyas Talpade speaks some weird language which no one understands, which amazingly turns out to be an alien language and helps Akshay contact aliens and converse with them!
The tagline of the film is "Sometimes BEING ALIEN is the only option" (by the way-- the smartest thing about the movie), especially if you are Kunder. Akshay showed that by not promoting the film and being alien to it. Kunder should just buy a rocketship and blast off the surface of the earth. Being Alien, is quiet frankly his only option.
If you get a chance to see the film, try. Because I want you to come up with a word to describe it - Galactic Catastrophe, Epic Blunder, Elephantine Shit... dunno . It's not bad... I just don't have the word for it yet.
Rating: N.A./ 10
Apparently even Rating is alien to this film !
