Someone asked me a few days ago, which is the last film which I felt was “Mind Blowing”? I wracked my brain for a while, but couldn’t think of anything except Rajni’s Robot ( which literally and figuratively blew my mind) !!! Infact when asked about Inception and Avatar, I said that they were good but not really something that amazed me. I jogged my memory a few more months into the past and finally I got my answer “Up in the Air” was the last Hollywood film which I fell head over heals for. And then came the Social Network.
To say that I didn’t have extraordinary expectations from “The Social Network” would be wrong. It was after all made by the same man who made films like “Fight Club”, “Seven” , “The Game” , “Zodiac” and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"– David Fincher. And man, did he manage to live up to the expectations. Infact, he went beyond them in “The Social Network”.
The Social Network is a “fiction meets fact” story about the founder of the 500 Million+ member Social Network “Facebook” - Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook - the place where people spend their lives nowadays and I earn my daily bread. Its about how he came up with the idea, how he set it up, expanded it and how he made a lot of enemies to make 500 Million+ friends!
Not only is the story interesting, but the storytelling is riveting. The screenplay of the film, by Aaron Sorkin, is so engaging, that time flies by. Fincher creates tension, excitement throughout and you keep wanting more. The screenplay runs back and forth joining thread after thread, weaving an extraordinary tale. And the performances are at par with the direction. Its lead actor - Jesse Eisenberg, is the films biggest strength. The cocksure, arrogant yet brilliant nature of the founder is depicted with utmost ease and precision. Infact the support cast revels in his presence. Surprisingly even Justin Timberlake manages to impress with his performance.
Special Mention has to be given to the Background Score by Trent Rezner, Atticus Ross because the music elevates each scene to a completely different level. Simply Brilliant.
In his mission or absolutely madness( Junoon) to create this social network, he steps on the feet of the of people closest to him. He has 500+ friends virtually but is a loner in real life. That’s the story of the generation and that’s the very message that is hammered with such utter precision, that it drills down to your heart.
Do not miss this movie. Coz it’s simply fab. Super Like - Bow to the Fincher !
