To Mani Sir, with Love
Sir,
In the times where movies like houseful are called comedies and movies like my name is khan are called serious cinema … I would like you to empathize with a movie lover like me. Your movies, for us are the light at the end of the tunnel. We long for a trailer, a music snippet, a preview of the treat and then it release like Raavan did ... and is followed by a grim silence or the sound of hopes shattering …
I saw Raavan after reading the bad reviews and friends advising against it. According to me the movie is not bad just meager. With a beautiful imagination like yours making a meager film is a sacrilege…
In my lofty dreams, if you would have asked to make me this movie I would have done the following
We are believers ….Waiting for your next feature …

In my lofty dreams, if you would have asked to make me this movie I would have done the following
- Change the name from “Raavan”. Creativity is shackled as soon as a try to interpret a mythological Epic as there is no tolerance for deviations …
- Any mention that the character is ruthless, righteous or virtuous would have been removed… with such canvas I rather show then tell
- In story would have been a series of actions and not just one noticeable act per character.
- My protagonist, central character cannot die in a beautiful valley shot with a poetic slow motion. There has to be an impact, a life touched, thoughts changes, views molded….
- I would never cast Govinda, even if he is keen to associate with your project if I have to call him ‘Sanjeevni’ and make him jump to draw parallel with his character.
- With a song like “Behne De” I can show the urgency of emotions and depth of love … with “Beera” I can show the cynicism of my character… would have used the gems provided by Rehman to tell the story.
- Tear filled grey eyes are beautiful, but not more then grey characters. Killing policeman and playing with children is a very clichéd paradox, there is room for much more…
- I will probably use the mud covered faces and uniforms to show the stark of two worlds like you did … but why only show the clash and not define the two societies
We are believers ….Waiting for your next feature …
