Alfred Hitchcock

There is no one, absolutely no one who can build a scene like Hitchcock, especially in the realm of suspense. The absolute master of Thrills and Chills, Hitchcock could make a balloon seem scary. His character development, his scene building is a lesson in Film-making. Making more than fifty feature films in a career spanning 6 decades he was one of the most prolific directors.
Birds is one of my all time favourite movies. If you have missed this one, you have to see it to understand the mastery of Hitchcock. Creating fear out of nothing, is a master class in itself.
Off the films I have seen , here are my favourite ones :
Rebecca (1940) , Rope (1948), Strangers on a Train (1951), Dial M for Murder (1954), Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958) , North by Northwest (1959), Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963) .

Steven Spielberg

Though a more populist choice, I think Spielberg is a revolutionary director. His films defined my childhood. From Jurassic Park, to Jaws, to E.T, to Indiana Jones, Spielberg is the master of thrill and sci-fi. His films brought revolutionary techniques into existence because the technology required for convincingly showing Dinosaurs on screen and traveling in time didn't exist. But these are the more MASS films; His best work is in the Genre of WAR. With "Saving Private Ryan" he made War films extra realistic. What I seriously appreciate in this guy, is the VISION. He has no boundaries in his mind, and hence he is able to visualize something that others wont even believe can be done in their wildest dreams.
My Favourite films from his Filmography are:
Jaws (1975) , E.T. (1982), Jurrasic Park (1993), Schindler's List (1993), Saving Private Ryan (1997), Catch me if you can (2001), The Terminal (2004), Munich (2005)
